We live on the end of a street next to a field which we have come to find out holds a variety of different creatures that like to visit our back yard. When we took our trailer to be serviced last year the poor service man at the shop had quite a surprise by the 4 foot long snake wrapped underneath, the hornets nest that had infested the inside and the mice that taken up home in the storage bench. It was a regular petting zoo on wheels.
This year we don't seem to have as many mice falling into our window wells and we think that is due to the family of snakes that live under our deck. I know it sounds really creepy but they usually don't come out during the day and they don't seem to be much trouble until the other day when we were sitting outside and one ventured out. Our dog Shakespeare, is very protectivce of us and will stalk the snakes for hours if he sees one in the yard. It was actually quite alarming to see the size of the snake. I've been told it is a harmless blow snake and given that it keeps the mice out of my strawberries I don't mind having them visit. So we have now confirmed that this is where the snakes enter the deck . It is a large deck, completely sealed off, other than this entrance.
The first time Shakespeare found out there were snakes in the back yard he spent days trying to sniff them out for days. He was really obsessed and this is what happened to the deck the first day (when we were'nt watching him).
The snake made it over to the grass as it tried to get away from Shakespeare. It sure was hissing a lot.
We were all good and calm while the snake was under the trampoline but when it slithered under our chairs the screaming ensued. This was what Kenadee and and I looked like as the snake slithered under us, onto the grass.

Yikes! That freaks me out! Oh, Holly wanted to get Christina's new phone #. Do you have it? You can either comment on my blog or e-mail it to dlgrose@aol.com. Thanks! Oh, and I am so excited for you to have your baby next week. Best of luck!
You are such a great sport! I think I'd have my boxes packed. But which is worse, a snake that stays under the deck (most of the time) or mice that try to come inside? And since I'm just dying to know, you can still manage to jump up onto a chair??? I think I would have just lifted my feet and waited! kelli
I can't believe how calm you seem about the whole thing. Gross is all I can say - to the snake, and the mice, and the hornets, etc. This is why I live in suburbia, although Waide continues to tell me that those things are all around us too. I choose not to believe him.
I cannot believe that huge of a snake is living under your deck...I would be freaking out!!! I could barely look at the pictures because I'm so terrified of the creatures!
I'm not afraid of any bugs, or spiders, but get a snake or mouse around me and I freak out! I would really have a hard time wit one that big living in my yard.

Ew ew ew ew ew! I HATE snakes. Gotta love that Shakespeare. Your yard could be a National Geographic article with the size of that snake!
