With my first 3 children I was so big into reading and implementing all the baby advice that I could get my hands on. I just wanted my children to be normal, well adjusted, healthy children and I'm proud to say they have turned out A-OK! Actually, I'm super proud of the little people they are becoming. They amaze me all the time with their kindness, thoughtfulness and love within our family.
Now, here's where things are different. I seem to be doing everything wrong with my sweet new baby. Maybe I'm mourning the loss of her baby stages as she gets older or maybe I'm just plain tired and I can't stick it out when she won't go to bed or when she wakes up at night. I think its a little of both but mostly I don't want her to grow up!
I hate to even admit this but Bailee is still in our room, in her bassinett. If you've seen the picture, you know that the bassinett is now unsafe because of the low sides. Its so small that she can't even try to roll over and I have only put her in it wrapped tightly in her blanket so she doesn't roll. So, the time has come to move her into the crib (which is upstairs...another factor for me). Yesterday she took a nap in her crib for the first time and as I watched her on the video monitor she just spread out her whole body and for the first 15 minutes she rolled around, stretched her arms and grabbed her toes. It was SO cute! She finally fell asleep on her tummy and I of course watched her every second on the monitor and ran upstairs to check on her a few times because I'm a nervous mum and she was on her tummy.
So heres our biggest problem. At 3 months when we laid Bailee in her crib at night she would fall asleep and wake up a few hours later, usually to burp, but I often didn't realise that so I would get her up and take her downstairs to snuggle until I went to bed at 11pm. Now that she is used to this schedule she is resisting any type of normal bedtime schedule. And....dare I even admit it.....when I was really tired I would nurse her and now that is what she wants every bedtime. I tried to let her cry it out last night but she is stubborn and I am weak! The other bad thing is that she is so used to me that she won't settle down even if Marc goes in to see to her. So, that really has to change. As a mother of 4, I should know these things but I've forgotten so if you have any ideas send them my way.
And my final issue is something that happened with all my babies....refusing the bottle! We started off supplementing with a bottle now and then but nursing is so convenient that we eventually forget to do that and now at 6 months old she will have nothing to do with a bottle...not even with juice in it. She thinks its so funny to chew it and gum on it. But I want to go skiing for more than 3 hours so I need to get this bambino to take an occasional bottle. Any suggestions!?
Even with all these concerns we couldn't be happier to have such a sweet little spirit in our home. She is now scooching around the room. She does the backwards scoot when she's on her tummy...using her arms to push back and on her back she uses her feet to push her up and scoots around the room. I just realised that in no time at all my life will change...its been a long time since we've had a baby roaming around. Break out the baby gates!

Oh I hear you! I actually made Caleb move her crib in our room! She is such a good little sleeper I wish I had advise for you! But my 2 older ones are still not vey good at going to sleep in there beds. So we too have some things that we need to fix. My kids never never took bottles no matter how hard I tried! Braylen is my first baby not to nurse..she flat out refused so I have the convenience of the bottle for her, but I have no advise as to how to get Bailee to take a bottle! Good luck I hope you find something that works!
P.S. She is a doll!!
Oh you just have to do what works for you. It sounds like your doing a great job! As for the bottle, I dont really know. Landon had a bottle within the first week and Korbin had one by 5 weeks. And breastfeeding was such an issue for us that my babies loved the bottles!
But, I'm just thinking that there are bottles that are more designed to feel like breastfeeding. The AVENT bottles are what most lactations consultants advise. They have different kinds, but one specific kind designed for breastfeeding babies and the nipples come in stages, to immitate the same flow as breastmilk, for the specific age of baby. There is also a bottle that looks JUST LIKE boobs!! lol!! Really, it's round, soft and has a nipple on the end. Some people like those. They also make a feeding system that will feed the baby through a specially designed pacifier. You can get that at Kids R Us. And then most lactation specialists also carry something to allow you to feed your baby off of your finger, but that's generally used for babies with suckling problems. Korbin used it for a while, but with no luck.
Hope that helps.

I think you're just more experienced now, and you realize that all of these little 'baby rules' really don't matter. All that matters is that they are loved and adored as much as Heavenly Father would want them to be! And I think you're doing pretty awesome in that department!
Victoria, you are seriously one of the most amazing mums I know. As for the bottle, none of my 5 kids would take one. I nursed them until they were about a year or so. I did find one thing that worked so I could go skiing, though. I got them to like Rice Cereal. (We called it "mush") I would leave that and a sippy cup of water with whoever babysat them when I occasionally had to leave them for very long. At least then I knew they wouldn't starve while I was gone.
My kids would never take bottles either...at about B's age, he just recommended going straight to a sippee cup (with an adult holding it). They have some sippees with soft tops on them that are good for the little ones to navigate. It sorta worked for us but was never that great but it might get you at least 4 hour of skiing! Good luck!
