Happy Valentines Day!!

Last year I ran a quick errand to the store before the kids got out of school. I walked into our normally quiet Fred Meyer store only to find hoards of men with worried looks of confusion on their faces. I entered on the 'flower' side of the store and found most of the men frantically grabbing what was left of the flowers and candy from the displays. It was then that I realised it was Valentine's Day! I couldn't help but laugh at the sight and that's when I realised that I didn't ever want my husband to become one of those men. In the past he did his best to shower me with flowers, presents and dinner but after I choked when I later saw the flower receipt for a dozen roses (and realised how many pairs of shoes I could have bought) and after we had to fight the crowds at the restaurant (one year with kids, what were we thinking?) we both decided we would abandon the 'commercialism' and do it our way! So, each year we boycott the actual day and we celebrate the weekend after Valentines Day. We get great deals on the clearance items (which warms my heart) and we can eat out in a decent time frame. When Marc was getting his MBA and working full time we often didn't even get to see him on Valentines Day so he started a tradition that means much more to us than flowers and candy. He figured that he spent so much time at work and school that he would write each of us a LOVE MEMO. So, each year, we get a wonderful written, heartful memo that says it all! I cherish these memos. What a great hubby!!

That's a great idea. Do you remember the year we tried to go out? We spent hours going from place to place, each one had a 2 hour wait. By the time we were done, we could have gone to the first restaurant we stopped at. Happy Valentines Day
