Yesterday proved to be an eventful day as Shakespeare, our dog, dug his way to freedom not once, but twice. Here's how it all went down.
I was laying in bed around 4pm not feeling too well so I really hadn't got ready; no shower, sweat pants and no bra. Suddenly, Jake ran into the house screaming. I thought for sure someone had lost a limb by the terror in his voice, only to realise that the dog had escaped. Jake has always thought that if he runs away then he's gone forever so we had a chat afterwards about the chip he has inside him and how the animal shelter would call us. That was big relief to Jake.
Anyways, once I hear that the dog is gone and he's running through the field next to the house, I jump up, no time for bra so I throw on Marc's sweatshirt and slip on some shoes. Then I realise that I have no car to catch him in. So I give Jake the leash and tell him to get on his bike and chase the dog. After a few minutes I start to worry that they might follow him a long way because he's quite a runner so I jump on my bike and start off into the field. Remember I haven't had a bit of exercise in the last 6 months but I was doing okay. Suddenly my sweatpants begin to get caught in the chain so I had to pull them up to my knee's and tuck them in my G's. I pedaled and pedaled but didn't see the dog or the children. When I reached the end I turned around and rode home. As you can imagine I was quite a sight.
When I arrived home, slightly out of breath, the dog and kids were all home safe and sound. They had managed to corner him at the church and take him home. As punishment I put that dog right outside into the backyard and it wasn't until about an hour later that Kenadee said she couldn't find him in the backyard. Great! Marc had just arrived home so he took a drive around the neighborhood. This time the kids were calm and collected, especially Jake. Marc found the dog not too far away and then we checked the yard. Shakespeare had dug a hole under the fence and escaped both times. Needless to say we blocked up the hole, much to his dismay. And it's a definate trip to obedience school for all of us. If he could just learn to come, or at least come back when he gets out our lives would be much simpler. But if this is his only fault then we can't be too upset. He's a great dog!!!!

We've had those moments with our dog as well, good thing he remembers where he was born,(the Bringhurst) that is where he always runs to. Glad you got your dog back okay, they are worth all we do for them.
That's pretty funny...I can just imagine..poor you! Daisy has this great trick of loosing her dog tags (we've figured out a way to keep them on her). But, just to have double security, make sure you put his tag on that his the chip info number on, as well as his name tag. A lot of people that find dogs don't realize that dogs can be chipped and good heartedly, they decide to keep him, rather than turn him into the shelter. We had that with Daisy once, luckily they saw a flyer and called us up!
Wow, I would have loved to see you on the bike! I'm glad you found him. Times like this, kids are so helpful!
