Easter Sunday

Most of you know that Marc serves in the Bishopric of a student ward. It has been such a rewarding experience for all of us. We attend a single, incoming Freshman ward which means that there isn't much of a primary other than our 3 children and one other 10 year old girl. So, primary has been an exciting adventure and they have definately LOVED the one on one attention they get from the fabulous students who teach them.

With this past Sunday being Easter, all but one of the students had gone home to visit their families for the Easter/Spring Break holiday, so as the Primary Advisor I got to spend that time as the substitute teacher with the children. It was such a rewarding Easter Sunday for me to be able to teach the children about the Savior and the blessings of the resurrection.

So, first we had an easter egg hunt. Each child got 3 eggs each and each egg contained an item that represented the time leading up to the Savior's crucifixion (ie: 30 pieces of silver, a sacrament cup, red cloth, baby leaves, dice, stones, a rock, white cloth etc). As we opened the eggs we read the scripture and talked about the items. After our lesson the children colored a picture of the savior which we taped to a straw then they colored the tomb and taped that to a paper cup. The savior (on the straw) would appear resurrected as they moved the straw up to the top of the cup. It was very cute! After our mini activity we went to the kitcen to cook 'resurrection rolls'. With only 4 children in our primary I thought this would be the one and only time they would really get to do something fun like this. We took crescent rolls which represented the tomb and placed a marshmellow inside the tomb. We gaurded the oven for 8 minutes as they cooked and when they were done they opened their rolls to reveal an empty 'tomb'. We ate our yummy rolls and went for an easter walk around the church.

It was such a great day for me as a mom, to be able to share this time with the children focusing more on the Savior and not just the easter egg hunt. In the afternoon, we had our traditional, hide the baskets which contained a minimal amount of candy (we have weird kids who get sick from candy or don't eat it) and then as a family we watched our new movie, "Enchanted". Both Marc and I absolutely LOVE this movie. Marc has admitted to having a small crush on the princess and he has the cutest little laugh when he watches the movie. I can't deny that Patrick Dempsey isn't a nice bit of eye candy either so its a win/win movie for us both:) I wish I had pictures of the children in their cute easter clothes but I have a dead camera so I'll post it soon.

Tori, where did you get the ideas for the lesson? It sounds like such a cute idea, could you forward it to me? What a neat opportunity to spend such quality time with your kids.

Yeah, it's just a slight crush...she freaking makes me want to burst into a ballad. But I am sure the first note from my crackling impaired voice would turn her into a pumpkin.
